...so I am somewhat familiar with the structure of N.American houses. Usually no drywall in our homes, all brick and mortar. In modern homes usually those large, light weight 2.75" airy gypsum blocks are used as room divider. Structure wall between my living room and bedroom is thick 7.9" lyme-sandstone, a material which is soft and easily drill-able in the beginning, but hardens during the years. (And I know, as the router connection is in the living room and I needed some ethernet cables through, to some other rooms, like my bedroom, Christians bedroom and the mediaroom downstairs, as our bedroom is close to the stairs) Electrical leads are in plastic tubing which are milled into the walls, and not drilled through the wooden wall supports as in your countries.
