I tend to disagree with the video as which is a better watch is subjective. I don't think either watch...

is REALLY worth what they sell for. Neither should cost more than $1-2K. The Rolex will hold it's value better, so it could be a better watch just for that reason.

I wasn't a Rolex fan most of my life, but I've always been a dive watch fan. So, to me, one of the best dive watches was the Rolex Sea-Dweller. That's the only Rolex I desired - not as much for its brand than for it's provenance in the commercial dive world and the total over engineering involved in making a watch that can withstand 1200m.

I bought mine in 2005 at an AD for $4,200. They stopped making the 16600 version, so the prices on used models are now going for $7,500. I am not selling mine, but if I did, I could almost double my money.

I like them both though, but the Rolex will hold its value better for what that's worth.

I think true watch snobs look down on Rolex and Omega as too pedestrian. Laughing

Hadn't seen it, but I am sure that is true on Wall Street. Probably a lot of Pateks too. Laughing (n/t) Mike D 35 October 01, 2019 07:05AM

My biggest reason to not desire a Rolex is that, when I see one in the wild, I immediately think "Fake!" (n/t) Zeb 24 October 04, 2019 01:03PM

Re: The fact that Rolex is the default correct choice, as intended by decades of Rolex design and marketing, makes Rolex less desirable for me. James T. Kirk© 24 October 04, 2019 07:29AM
