Re: I have large windows I can open up at night to cool down the house. Excellent insulation including the multi-pane windows minimizes heat rise during the day.

Same here, but we have a flat roof and are living on the second floor. We have large front windows, which can't open, all double glazing with special coating inside to keep warmth INSIDE. Never cold in the winter, but hot in the summer. Therefore we have flat screens in front of our windows to keep the heat out in the summer. But as soon the heatwave takes a few days longer, the nights don't cool off enough anymore in our regions. Plus we have BRICK houses usually. Keeps heat inside a long time!

Once we got home from a vacation in Poland and we had (even with windows closed and screens down) 31ºC/88F in the living room at 7:00 AM! Last couple of days max temp in the room was 27ºC/81ºF. Luckily the temperatures were down yesterday and today.

The picture was made during the 4th of July, people look at your house and wonder, why is he flying the star spangled banner? This is The Netherlands! Some people here think Americans are all crazy... Rolling on the floor
