I hear you. This is a bucket list thing for me too.

It seems like I was cheated on every other eclipse event I have experienced in my lifetime. Never been in the path of a total yet. The most massive partial eclipse was in the 1970's when I was in elementary school. Weather was great, recess time was almost to peak eclipse time, but the school principal cancelled all outdoor activities and ordered the drapes closed on the south side of the building. She was afraid 400 students would go home to parents fully blind. I spent the night before constructing a safe pin-hole viewer and it was all a wasted effort. Angry Other partial eclipses happened when I was in school too and/or during cloudy conditions
